Unique and energizing is how I describe the Silver Bay Weekend Courses. In 1996, a group of us started these in response to au pairs looking for courses they could participate in instead of being lectured at. When we first started, we would get 8-14 au pairs for a weekend. Now we get 100-200 for each of the weekends.
The courses are designed to accomplish three goals by providing sessions to help au pairs be better childcare providers, learn about American culture, and have opportunities for personal development. It takes 10-12 instructors each weekend to provide all these options for students.
Au pairs rank the experience very highly, especially the dedicated and energetic staff, the multiple options of sessions to attend, the lodging with private bathrooms, and the many food options at meals.
