TRANSPORTATION – GETTING TO SILVER BAY
LOCATION: Please note that although The College of Saint Rose is located in Albany, NY, Silver Bay, YMCA of the Adirondacks, is located about 80 miles (1.5 – 1.75 hours) north of Albany.
DRIVING DIRECTIONS
- From Albany, take the Northway (Route 87) 60 miles north to Exit 24: Bolton Landing and exit. (If you need gas, stop at an exit before 24)
- At end of exit ramp, turn right (east) and continue until end of road (4.5 miles approx.)
- Turn left (north) at end of road onto Route 9N and continue 12.3 miles
- You will pass Snug Harbor on the right and Silver Bay is .6 miles after Sung Harbor
- Turn right onto Silver Bay road at large sign and continue .25 miles (follow au pair signs)
CARPOOLING: How most au pairs travel to Silver Bay. You will receive a carpool list from us about 2 weeks prior to the course weekend that includes the names and contact information of the other au pairs that are registered. Sometimes a host parent will drive and spend the weekend- Email Mike for details.
TRAIN, BUS, AIRPLANES:
TRAVELING TO/FROM THE BUS/TRAIN/AIRPORT
Plan on AT LEAST 1 HR 30 MINS to get to the AIRPORT from Silver Bay, and 2 HRS to get to the BUS/TRAIN STATIONS in Albany.
AMTRAK TRAIN service comes to Albany, NY. (MEGABUS drop-off requires very short walk to Amtrak station). GREYHOUND, PETER PAN, and TRAILWAY BUS LINES all come into the main bus depot in Albany, NY. ALBANY, NY AIRPORT is closest airport. Please note that Southwest Airlines flies to Albany, NY.
SHUTTLES
We are no longer offering a shuttle from Albany NY to Silver Bay. Our experience over the last year is that only 1 or 2 au pairs per weekend end up taking it. The rest end up carpooling with other au pairs. Many ask to take it but then find rides. If an au pair is not able to find a ride, and lets us know seven days in advance, we will refund them fully.
If you fly, train or bus into Albany, YOU MUST MAKE YOUR OWN ARRANGEMENTS TO SHUTTLE TO SILVER BAY which is 80 miles north of Albany NY. We recommend reaching out to au pairs going thru the Albany NY area for a ride
Uber, Lyft or other ride share apps: please note that if you use one of these on Friday to get to Silver Bay, you will have an EXTREMELY DIFFICULT time finding available drivers on Sunday from Silver Bay which is in an isolated area in the Mountains to take you back to your destination. Last Month, some au pairs waited over two hours for a driver to come get them, and some au pairs had to carpool back with others au pairs instead.

WHERE YOU ARE GOING: The Century House is 12 miles north of Albany; you are NOT going to The College of Saint Rose Campus.
TIMING: PLEASE note that you cannot depart from the course prior to noon on Sunday, so make reservation accordingly. Plan at least 25 minutes to get to the Albany Airport, Bus Station and Train Stations.
TRAIN, BUS, AIRPLANES:
AMTRAK TRAIN service comes into Albany NY.
GREYHOUND, PETER PAN AND TRAILWAY BUS LINES all come into the same bus station in Albany. *Megabus comes into the Train Station.
ALBANY AIRPORT is the closest airport. Southwest airlines flies in and out of Albany.

COURSE: These intensive weekend courses focus on academic enrichment and are not a tour of the area. Students may decide to arrive early or stay later to tour on their own.
SLEEPING ROOMS: Rooms are double occupancy with two double beds and bathroom. There is potential of a few rooms for 3 or 4 students who want to be together and who are willing to share beds.
ARRIVING EARLY OR STAYING LATER: Students who want to arrive a few days early or stay a few days later can take advantage of a discounted group rate at the conference center. Further information about this option will be available later. Our estimate is that Thursday night will cost $108 per room and Sunday night $95 per room plus tax. Confirmations will include who to contact at the hotel and you would pay the hotel directly for any additional nights.
MEALS INCLUDED: Snacks on Friday evening, breakfast and lunch Saturday and breakfast Sunday.
TO BRING: Comfortable clothing, camera or smartphone for the digital photography course session, toiletries, pen, paper, medical insurance information, identification, sunscreen.
TRANSPORTATION: You are responsible for getting to the course in Las Vegas and back home. Contact the meeting center when you arrive at the airport 702-796-9000 to arrange free airport pick up.
COST: Courses in Las Vegas will cost $370 and the late fee rate will be $420. Those living locally who do not want housing and breakfasts will cost $310 and with the late fee $360.
GUEST: Guest space may be available for those not taking the course for $170 per person for room and the breakfasts from Friday evening until Sunday morning. Email for information at least 36 days in advance, to aupaircourse@strose.edu
REFUNDS for VEGAS COURSES: Written refund requests received 20 days prior to the course or earlier, will receive a full refund less $150 cancellation charge. If canceling less than 20 days before the course, refund is dependent upon filling any cancelled spot with another student.
COURSE SCHEDULE: Your weekend course will begin Friday evening at 7:00 PM and will be packed with seminars, workshops and activities until check out on Sunday at 11:50 am. Course content is subject to change but includes effective techniques and activities to motivate children, communications skills, financial and time management, unleashing your creativity, proper writing skills and techniques, and more.
